Since this past Sunday, I have been really contemplating my life and what I want for myself.  What prompted me to do a self-introspection you ask? Well, my pastor preached a message on last Sunday that really impacted my inner being. He preached on the subject – Why are you slacking off? Wow! he really got the congregation going on this one. He kept saying over and over again, ” slackers are always settlers and settlers are NEVER successful.” OMG-don’t you think that is something else?  What he meant by that statement that just resonated in my mind over and over again – is that people who are slackers – (meaning those individuals that do just enough to get by, you know those that operate in doing things on a “average” scale.) are fine, comfortable, content with their current situation or circumstance – they don’t want anything beyond what’s right in front of them. Slackers don’t like or want to be challenged by others to go above and beyond their comfort zone.  As a result, a slacker = a settler and a settler is NEVER successful. One can not be successful if they just settle for the average – or settle on what is easy.   Someone who is a slacker in their life has no vision …they have no dreams, no ambition.  Therefore, a slacker has no reason to engage or participate in any productive activities that will ultimately help them move beyond their average state of  affairs.  For example,  I know someone who keeps talking about how they need to lose weight and get back in shape. However, when they are out to dinner they order- a huge steak, a loaded baked potatoe with cheese and bread or they constantly drink alcohol (heavy drinks) on a regular basis. They NEVER work out – they NEVER go to the gym. But I can tell you what they are doing- gaining weight.  That person is a slacker-they have gotten comfortable in their current body and feel like they can just continue eating and drinking like that and not work out – and expect to be in shape-Umm…..hello I would say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  Now, I know that being successful in your relationships, on your job, with your weight, etc…is not and easy task. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.  And going down the path of success you will most certainly run into obstacles – even conflicts. But instead of slinking away cowardly - you have to confront those obstacles and conflict head on.  Remember you are not alone in tearing down those conflicts-you have God on your side. He will never leave you nor forsake you. With him all things are possible. You see, we get uncomfortable in seasons that God has us in- but we don’t realize that these seasons that he puts us in builds our character and gives us strength to make it!

Don’t be a slacker-I know you want more for yourself, I know I do and I know that the awesome blessings that God has in store for me I want.  I know that I won’t be in the position to recieve all that he has for me by sitting there on the couch watching Lifetime movies  all day or coming home every day and getting into bed and going to sleep. If you are sleeping then you won’t be awake to catch your destiny.
